Job Description
The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) is seeking applicants to join its pool of Studio Art Life Models. Life Models pose for students in designated adult studio art classes, primarily at UMA's Augusta campus, with occasional opportunities at UMA Centers, including Lewiston and Rockland.
Life Models play an important role in supporting studio art instruction by providing students with opportunities to develop observational drawing skills, explore human anatomy and proportion, and strengthen their artistic techniques. Models work in a professional, structured classroom environment under the direction of course instructors.
This position reports to the Art Department Coordinator and works directly with individual course instructors. Assignments are scheduled based on course offerings and instructional needs. Hours may vary by semester, and inclusion in the applicant pool does not guarantee regular assignments. The hourly wage is $28.00.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to assume and maintain a variety of poses, including short gesture poses and longer, sustained poses, with reasonable accommodation as appropriate.
- Willingness to model nude, in costume, or in everyday clothing, depending on instructional needs.
- Ability to follow instructor direction and maintain a professional demeanor in a classroom setting.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a life model or in a related setting, such as visual arts, theater, dance, or performance, with a professional reference.
- Ability to resume previously established poses during extended modeling sessions.
- Flexibility to accommodate varying class schedules and instructional needs.
- Ability to assume a range of expressive poses and gestures.
