About this role

About the Role The ArcGIS Utility Network Principal Director acts as the executive functional and technology authority guiding utility clients through transforming legacy GIS environments to the ArcGIS Utility Network. The role sets the enterprise GIS vision and architecture, enabling service-oriented, web-based GIS platforms that support grid modernization, digital operations, and enterprise integration. Working with executive stakeholders, this leader shapes multi-year modernization roadmaps while guiding delivery teams through complex transformation programs. What You'll Do

  • Serve as trusted advisor to utility executives and enterprise architecture leaders; define enterprise GIS vision and modernization roadmaps around ArcGIS Utility Network.
  • Advise clients on the strategic transition from database-centric GIS architectures to modern API-driven, service-based platforms; lead executive workshops, architecture reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Provide industry perspective on GIS’s role in supporting modern grid operations, distributed energy integration, asset management, and field workforce enablement.
  • Serve as the lead enterprise solution architect for ArcGIS Utility Network transformations across large utility environments; define target GIS operating models, governance frameworks, and architectural standards.
  • Guide the migration from legacy network models to ArcGIS Utility Network using industry best practices; translate complex electric and gas utility requirements into scalable GIS architectures and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Ensure GIS capabilities support end-to-end utility workflows, including planning, design, construction, field operations, outage response, asset lifecycle management, and grid operations.
  • Provide oversight to large delivery teams, ensuring solution quality, architectural integrity, and alignment with enterprise IT standards.
  • Demonstrate willingness to travel for client work as needed. What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of experience in utility GIS solution architecture and enterprise platform implementations.
  • Multiple full lifecycle ArcGIS Utility Network or comparable utility GIS transformation programs.
  • Hybrid background spanning utility operations, enterprise GIS architecture, and large-scale system integration.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior utility leadership and enterprise architecture teams on GIS modernization strategies.
  • Must be eligible to work for any US employer, without sponsorship.
  • Willingness to travel for client work as needed.
  • Deep expertise in electric and gas distribution utility operations, including engineering, grid operations, and asset management workflows.
  • Strong understanding of ArcGIS Utility Network functional architecture: network topology, rules, asset and device modeling, structural vs functional networks, advanced network tracing.
  • Esri platform experience including ArcGIS Utility Network, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, Web GIS, and service-based architecture patterns.
  • Demonstrated success migrating utilities from legacy database-centric GIS architectures to modern service-oriented, API-driven platforms.
  • Experience integrating GIS with enterprise systems supporting asset management, grid operations, and field workforce management.
  • Ability to architect secure, scalable GIS platforms aligned with enterprise technology standards. Compensation & Benefits
  • Compensation varies by location, role, skill set, and experience; no specific salary range is provided in this posting.
