About the Role We are seeking a technical specialist to operate and maintain the Arc Melt Furnace SA-200 for lab environments. The SA-200 is a turnkey system capable of temperatures above 3500°C with a vacuum/inert gas system and a 100% duty cycle power source. What You'll Do
- Operate and monitor the Arc Melt Furnace SA-200 in lab settings, ensuring temperatures above 3500°C and high-purity melts
- Manage vacuum chamber components including the roughing pump, vacuum gauge, valve, and relief valve
- Oversee the inert gas system and ensure proper gas flow and safety procedures
- Handle copper hearth and stinger with tungsten electrode, and maintain the 2.0” (51 mm) copper hearth plate
- Utilize the 360° Pyrex viewing window, bottom-loading configuration, and castered mobile system as needed
- Document process parameters, sample results, and maintenance actions for R&D and teaching labs What We're Looking For
- Experience with arc melting furnaces, high-temperature vacuum systems, or similar lab equipment
- Familiarity with power supplies (e.g., 300 Amp @ 60% Duty Cycle, 12 Kva) and water cooling systems
- Ability to operate in and support university/industrial R&D lab environments
- Strong safety mindset and hands-on mechanical troubleshooting skills Nice to Have
- Experience with inert gas evacuation systems and gas relief valves
- Familiarity with Pyrex glass viewports and copper hearths for high-temperature processing
