About the Role This role focuses on supporting customization and integration of arc melting furnace systems, including a range of optional components described by Materials Research Furnaces, LLC. The successful candidate will work with customers and engineering teams to understand needs for custom cavities, crystal growth configurations, vacuum systems, and related accessories to ensure reliable, high-purity processing environments. What You'll Do
- Collaborate with customers to determine shapes and dimensions for sample/melt cavities and assist with configuration during order placement.
- Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of arc melting furnaces with options such as high vacuum systems, load locks, rotating hearths, button flippers, splat rods, and multiple arcs.
- Assist with crystal growth configurations using the Crystal Growing Kit, including understanding pulling speeds (as low as 0.001"/min) and seed rod rotation features.
- Provide guidance on vacuum environments, including diffusion pumps or turbo pumping, and on gas purification, oxygen monitoring, and water cooling (water chiller) integrations.
- Help interpret and apply the Option Compatibility Matrix (SA-200, SA-200X, TA-200, ABJ-338X, ABJ-900) to customer needs and product configurations. What We're Looking For
- Experience with industrial furnaces or high-precision materials processing equipment.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems (diffusion pumps, turbo pumps), gas purification, and oxygen monitoring in processing chambers.
- Ability to understand and communicate detailed equipment capabilities (custom cavities, rotating hearths, load locks, multiple arcs, vacuum casting).
- Strong collaboration and customer-facing skills to translate requirements into workable configurations. Nice to Have
- Experience with crystal growth processes (Czochralski) and high-precision motion systems.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical integration of furnace accessories and safety/compliance considerations.
