Application Engineer - FPGA/Emulation & ACAP Compilation Tools

Overview

The Emulation & Prototyping team in Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) seeks an experienced Application Engineer to focus on hardware emulation platforms, FPGA prototyping methodologies, design enablement flows, tools specification, validation, and customer support. Based in Hyderabad, India, you will work with AMD’s R&D groups and tier-1 customers to improve emulation and prototyping flows, user experience, and productivity for AMD’s UltraScale, Versal ACAP, and SoC families.

Responsibilities

• Own the Emulation & Prototyping product area and serve as a champion for high-impact projects and key customers.
• Drive critical customer escalations to closure and contribute to new emulation and prototyping technology rollouts.
• Triage reported issues across E&P product areas, such as hardware emulation flows, FPGA prototyping platforms, and design compilation, and collaborate with engineering to address them.
• Explore innovative emulation and prototyping methodologies and assess their impact on flows and design practices for current and next-generation AMD SoC and Versal ACAP devices.
• Develop and deliver training materials on new emulation/prototyping features, platforms, and methodologies.
• Maintain excellent customer awareness of RTL-based design flows, pre-silicon validation expectations, and emulation/prototyping use cases.
• Apply knowledge of the entire FPGA or ASIC design process and tool flows, with intermediate-to-advanced understanding of Emulation & Prototyping domains, hardware emulation platforms and/or FPGA prototyping systems (e.g., HAPS, Protium).
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to management and customers, outlining options, trade-offs, and impact.
• Collaborate across multiple teams and sites with a positive, cooperative approach under varying workloads.

Requirements

• MS or equivalent work experience in Electrical Engineering or a related technology field.
• Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong working knowledge of RTL-based design flows, pre-silicon validation expectations, and emulation/prototyping customer use cases.
• Good working knowledge of the complete FPGA or ASIC design process and tool flow, with emphasis on the Emulation & Prototyping domain and hardware emulation platforms and/or FPGA prototyping systems (e.g., HAPS, Protium).
• Scripting experience in Tcl, Perl, or Python is desirable.
• Solid understanding of design methodologies for Emulation & Prototyping flows and robust problem-solving skills for complex system-level issues across emulation, prototyping, and pre-silicon validation environments.
• Strong technical communication skills and the ability to present options and trade-offs in a concise, actionable manner.
• Ability to work effectively with multiple teams across sites and domains with a positive attitude, even under variable workloads.
