Job title: Application Advanced Engineer, Quality Assurance and New Launches
About the Role In this position as Application Advanced Engineer, Quality Assurance and New Launches, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of new applications and managing product launches to meet technical, functional, and safety requirements. You will collaborate with the team to guarantee dimensional capability, CAD model integrity, and proper change control throughout development and industrialization.
What You'll Do
- Determine product and process adjustments and fine-tuning to guarantee fit & finish as well as quality and manufacturing standards expected by the customer.
- Collaborate with the Application Engineer during Phase 1, providing key input to ensure product and process dimensional capability.
- Lead 8D-based issue resolution activities during Phases 2 and 3 for dimensional quality issues in components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies.
- Perform teardown analyses, part swap studies, statistical analyses, and other technical investigations to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
- Provide recommendations for tooling CAD adjustments, process improvements, and design optimizations.
- Ensure the integrity of tooling CAD models, maintaining proper change control.
- Use metrology tools to support issue analysis and problem solving, including pin gages, laser scanning, and CMMs.
- Provide on-site technical support at manufacturing facilities in collaboration with the Application Engineer and cross-functional teams (CFTs).
- Participate in design and process validation testing (DV/PV) and failure analysis activities.
- Support pilot builds and production launches to ensure dimensional and quality requirements are met.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in Steering Wheel, Driver Airbag (DAB), automotive interiors Class A, product design and CAD.
- Proficiency with CAD tools, tolerance analysis (Tolerance Stack) and interpretation of GD&T.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plastic injection, die casting, RIM, stamping and assembly.
- Experience in launches of new products (APQP, DV/PV, builds, industrialization and plant support).
- Knowledge in quality and applied statistics including process capability analysis, dimensional studies, SPC and quality tools (8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why’s, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, technical leadership and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Advanced conversational English (mandatory), excellent communication, customer focus and results-oriented.
