Job Title: Analytics Engineer / Data Analyst

Location: Lagos

The Role We are looking for a highly technical Analytics Engineer / Data Analyst who lives and breathes SQL and loves building intuitive data experiences. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our raw database architecture and our business intelligence layer. You won't just be dragging and dropping charts; you will be writing raw, optimized queries across PostgreSQL and MySQL, modeling data, and owning our Metabase instance from top to bottom. If you love writing clean CTEs, optimizing query execution, and translating software engineering data models into business metrics, we want you on our team.

What You’ll Do

• Own the BI Layer: Serve as the primary administrator for our Metabase instance. You will build comprehensive dashboards, configure native SQL queries into reusable Metabase Models, and set up field filters for non-technical users.

• Advanced Data Modeling: Write complex, performant SQL (CTEs, Window Functions, JSONB extraction) in PostgreSQL and MySQL to transform raw application data into clean reporting tables.

• Query Optimization: Ensure our databases stay fast and healthy. You will use EXPLAIN ANALYZE to identify bottlenecks, suggest indexing strategies, and write queries that don't lock up production environments.

• Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the translation layer between our software engineering team and business stakeholders. When engineering ships a new feature, you will be right there to map the new tables and expose the data in Metabase.

• Data Governance: Manage SSO, user permissions, and data dictionaries to ensure the right people have access to the right data securely.

• What We’re Looking For

• SQL Mastery: 3+ years of experience writing advanced, production-grade SQL. You must be highly proficient in both PostgreSQL and MySQL dialects.

• Metabase Expertise: Deep experience building dashboards, writing native SQL within Metabase, configuring variables, and managing Metabase environments.

• Database Fundamentals: A strong understanding of relational database architecture, foreign keys, normalization, and the performance implications of querying live replicas.

• Analytical Mindset: The ability to take a vague business question (e.g., "What is our month-over-month active user retention?"), find the right tables, and visualize the answer accurately.

• Self-Starter: You are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment and taking full ownership of the data visualization pipeline.

• Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with version control (Git) for managing SQL scripts alongside software engineering teams.

• Familiarity with data transformation and orchestration tools like dbt (data build tool).

• Experience extracting or working with data via Python (Pandas/FastAPI) or TypeScript.

• Previous experience working in a fast-growing startup environment.

• Salary Range

• N200,000 - N300,000 / Month.
