Job title: Analytical Scientist - LC-MS/MS (Toxicology)
About the Role This role develops LC-MS-MS methods for the determination of drugs and metabolites in urine and oral fluid specimens within Abbott's Toxicology Business Unit (Rapid Diagnostics) in Santa Rosa, CA. It is an on-site, full-time position focused on expanding testing options and delivering accurate, timely test results to clients.
What You'll Do
- Perform method development for new and existing assays
- Transfer methods to the method validations team
- Troubleshoot existing analytical methods
- Author, review, and verify validation protocols and reports
- Support production with high-throughput analytical testing
- Anticipate, recognize, and resolve complex technical issues through knowledge, resources, and iterative experimentation
- Advance the technical capabilities by evaluating, recommending, and implementing new technologies
- Author quality and regulatory test method documents
- Manage analytical projects; present results to senior management
- Provide guidance for junior analytical scientists
- Communicate proactively with peers and management; follow SOPs and GLP/safety policies
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline; 6+ years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of analytical principles, cross-group dependencies, and functioning in a quality system (GLP/SOPs)
- Hands-on LC-MS/MS method development and validation experience for pharmaceuticals in biological specimens (minimum 6 months; 2+ years preferred)
- Experience with Sciex software (Analyst, Multiquant, Sciex OS)
- Experience with method validation of forensic toxicology techniques per ANSI/ASB 036 or equivalent standards
- Familiarity with Hamilton Nimbus/STAR automation
- Ability to manage projects, solve problems across diverse scopes, and mentor junior staff
Nice to Have
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline with 1 year of commercial toxicology lab experience
- Additional hands-on LC-MS/MS experience and familiarity with regulatory toxicology standards
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $90,000 – $180,000 per year
