AI Tech Lead
The AI Tech Lead will be the hands-on engineering leader of Solen's AI Center of Excellence (COE), building and shipping AI-powered products across our portfolio of operating companies (OpCos).
This role is responsible for taking AI initiatives from idea to general availability, setting the engineering standards the COE works by, and building a high-velocity team that OpCo leaders trust as a delivery partner. You will decompose ambiguous problems into clear technical plans, make the call on speed versus technical debt, and coach engineers to raise the bar on quality and flow.
This is a highly technical, hands-on leadership role based in Brazil, working from our existing office on an in-office / hybrid basis.
What You Will Do
-
AI Delivery Across the Portfolio
-
Lead the design, build, and launch of high-impact AI projects for multiple OpCos, taking each from concept through general availability (GA).
-
Partner with OpCo product and business leaders to identify AI use cases that create measurable customer value and contribute to portfolio AI revenue targets.
-
Decompose ambiguous business problems into clear architectures, technical plans, and deliverable milestones.
-
Remain hands-on in architecture, code, and technical decision-making while guiding the team through execution.
-
Technical Leadership
-
Own technical direction for COE projects, including architecture, model and framework selection, and integration with OpCo platforms.
-
Balance speed of delivery against technical debt, making sound trade-off decisions and holding firm on non-negotiables such as security and data privacy.
-
Tailor security and compliance approaches to each OpCo's environment and customer requirements.
-
Engineering Standards & Code Quality
-
Define and implement COE engineering standards, including coding guidelines, code review process, testing expectations, and CI/CD checks.
-
Ensure every new project follows these standards, and build the tooling and review practices that enforce them.
-
Continuously improve standards as the team, tools, and AI landscape evolve.
-
Team Productivity
-
Implement practices that drive high-velocity development, including AI-assisted engineering workflows.
-
Identify and remove bottlenecks, improve flow, and track delivery metrics that matter.
-
Coach, mentor, and develop engineers, raising the technical bar across the team.
-
Cross-Team Communication
-
Establish a clear communication cadence with OpCo leaders on priorities, progress, risks, and outcomes.
-
Act as the bridge between product and engineering, resolving conflict constructively and keeping stakeholders aligned.
-
Translate technical concepts and trade-offs for non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or engineering lead role.
- Proven track record shipping AI/ML or LLM-powered products to production and general availability.
- Demonstrated ability to take an ambiguous project, decompose it independently, and define the architecture to deliver it.
- Hands-on experience defining and enforcing engineering standards: coding guidelines, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Concrete examples of improving team velocity, removing bottlenecks, and coaching engineers.
- Strong experience with modern AI tooling (e.g., LLM APIs, RAG, agents, evaluation frameworks) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Solid understanding of application security and data privacy, and how to apply them in different environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with professional fluency in English.
- Based in Brazil and able to work from our office on an in-office / hybrid basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in B2B SaaS or vertical software, ideally across multiple products or business units.
- Experience leading a Center of Excellence, platform team, or shared engineering function.
- Experience with AI-first development practices and AI coding assistants at team scale.
- Experience working with distributed teams across North America and Latin America.
What Success Looks Like
- High-impact AI projects reach GA for at least 3–5 OpCos and contribute toward the $1M AI revenue target across the portfolio.
- The COE operates as a high-velocity team, with practices that measurably improve delivery speed and flow.
- OpCo leaders have a clear communication cadence with the COE and report ≥90% satisfaction with COE engineering collaboration.
- COE engineering standards (coding guidelines, code review, testing, CI/CD checks) are defined, implemented, and followed by 100% of new projects.
Solen-isms (How We Operate)
- Ownership Mindset: We own the mission. We don't wait to be told. We lead, fix, and build as if it were ours. When problems arise, we run toward them, not away.
- Benchmark to Best: We seek out excellence. We measure ourselves against the best and adapt quickly, always looking for the edge that moves us forward.
- Openly Self-Critical: Leaders go first: they surface their misses early, ask for direct feedback, and turn “game film” into better decisions and better systems.
- Disagree & Commit: Leaders disagree openly and constructively, regardless of title or tenure, because truth is how we avoid bureaucracy and benchmark to best.
- Figureitoutiveness: Embracing challenges, fostering growth, and taking initiative, leaders thrive on hard work and high failure tolerance.
- Mutual Elevation: Committed to growth, elevating teams, developing future leaders, and removing barriers to mastery and joy.
- Learn-it-alls: Learn-it-alls, not know-it-alls, embracing failure as part of growth and progress.
- Pioneering: Pioneering driven by opportunity, using first principles thinking and unbound by tradition or rules.
- Will to Win: Leaders relentlessly pursue potential, reject mediocrity, and get what they tolerate.
- Dialectical: We learn through conversation. We ask, listen, question, and evolve — valuing disagreement as a tool for alignment and deeper understanding.
- Frugality: Achieving more with less, focusing on quality, long-term value, and company-wide responsibility.
- Candor: We communicate with integrity, transparency, and respect in all conversations.
- Kaizen: Kaizen is continuous improvement as a way of life. Leaders make hundreds of small upgrades that compound, turning lessons into standards and standards into durable systems.
