About this role

Job title: Aerobiology, Animal Clinical Pathology and Telemetry (AAT) Senior Research Technician

About the Role Cape Fox's Eagle Health subsidiary seeks an AAT Senior Research Technician to support aerosol exposure, telemetry, and animal clinical pathology studies at Fort Detrick, MD. The role focuses on conducting GLP-compliant experiments in BSL-2/3/4 environments and contributing to the development of medical countermeasures against biothreat agents. The position is contingent on contract award and requires compliance with USAMRIID SOPs.

What You'll Do

  • Provide laboratory support for aerosol exposure experiments and execution of research protocols as directed by AAT Leadership.
  • Execute studies, assist with data collection/entry, maintain laboratory space and equipment, and mentor technical staff.
  • Work within BSL-2/3/4 laboratories handling controlled substances with BPRP and CS-PRP adherence.
  • Generate, characterize, and sample biological aerosols to support pathogenesis and medical countermeasure studies (animal plethysmography, aerosol supervision, bacterial/viral assays, decontamination); roughly 75-120 aerosol exposures per year.
  • Independently and collaboratively investigate infection phases in representative lab animals pre-/post-agent exposure.
  • Support logistical aspects of AAT animal protocols: sample tubes, supplies, paperwork.
  • Enter studies in the AAT Scheduling program and complete activities; manage sample processing, inactivation, and sample management per protocol.
  • Conduct up to ~20 protocols per year; track via scheduling system.
  • Perform viral/bacterial assays (stock characterization, plating, ELISA, RT-PCR, microarray, cytokine analysis) as required by approved protocols.
  • Conduct clinical pathology evaluations (hematology, chemistry, urine, fecal, coagulation) for approved animal protocols and NHP colony management.
  • Enter data into formats, develop charts/graphs, and assist manuscript or poster preparation; present findings at one scientific conference per year if directed.
  • Maintain and calibrate AAT laboratory space/equipment; document maintenance per USAMRIID SOPs and GLP.
  • Replenish supplies, obtain quotes, and mentor team members per SOPs.
  • Develop and revise SOPs to GLP standards and address CAPAs; typically 10-15 SOPs and 5-15 CAPAs annually.
  • Coordinate and collaborate to support AAT technical training; train other staff as qualified.
  • Independently assemble, calibrate, and test telemetry systems (DSI, Stellar, NOTOCORD); troubleshoot and provide telemetry support for animal studies in containment labs (BSL-2/3/4); ~20 studies/year.
  • Maintain telemetry systems in a validated state for GLP studies; manage inventory of telemetry hardware/software (roughly 15-25 validated systems/year).
  • Ensure data storage/backups; analyze telemetry data and share results with Telemetry Support SME.
  • Maintain GLP-trained records and complete RIID-Train requirements; participate in training and oversight.
  • Perform weekly/monthly BSL-related tasks and related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working in BSL-2/3/4 laboratories and in GLP environments.
  • Proficiency with aerosol generation/measurement, animal studies, and biological sample analysis.
  • Strong data management, documentation, and ability to generate charts/graphs; familiarity with scheduling programs.
  • Skills in molecular assays (RT-PCR, ELISA, microarray) and clinical pathology (hematology, chemistry, urine, fecal, coagulation).
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot telemetry systems and coordinate with Telemetry Support.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with cross-functional teams; capable of mentoring others.
  • Strong communication and regulatory compliance, with experience addressing audits and CAPAs.

Nice to Have

  • Willingness to present findings at scientific conferences (local/CONUS travel).
  • Experience with USAMRIID SOPs and CAPA processes; familiarity with CAPA timelines.
  • Prior experience assembling, calibrating, and maintaining telemetry equipment in GLP studies.

Compensation & Benefits Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 USD per year. Benefits include company holidays, paid time off, health/dental/vision insurance, life and disability, tuition reimbursement, and 401(k) with company match. The role is posted contingent upon contract award.
