About the Role The Advising Dean of Preprofessional Advising provides advising to CC/SEAS undergraduates and alumni in preparation for and application to graduate programs in health professions, law, and business. The role serves as a primary and supplemental advisor, developing resources, delivering programming, and representing the office to internal and external constituencies. What You'll Do
- Serve as a member of the Premedical Advisory Committee, advising on all phases from course selection to professional school applications, including portfolio reviews, school lists, and writing the Columbia Letter for advisees.
- Advise students and alumni on all aspects of applications to law and business schools through individual appointments, email, and group sessions.
- Share responsibility with other preprofessional staff for writing law school dean’s certifications and Bar certifications.
- Plan and facilitate programs for preprofessional students/alumni (personal statements, applications, interviews), guest lectures, alumni events, and visits from professional schools.
- Develop and maintain content for websites and listservs, and create presentations; represent the office at campus initiatives (Days on Campus, Orientation, Family Weekend, etc.).
- Collaborate with offices across Columbia (Center for Career Education, Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, Alumni Affairs, Global Engagement, Admissions, Athletics) to share preprofessional content and develop joint programming.
- Maintain preprofessional data in Salesforce; analyze trends and make recommendations for improvements.
- Research and publicize opportunities and assist student organizations in the preprofessional space.
- Assist in managing the mock interview program for prehealth students; train interviewers and conduct mock interviews.
- Maintain knowledge of Columbia curricula and professional school processes to serve as a knowledgeable resource; stay current with changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
