About this role

About the Role The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager provides leadership across UCSF Health for APPs, guiding quality improvement, regulatory compliance, policies, funding and productivity, training, data sharing, and partnerships. The role also includes direct management of APPs within the General Surgery department and collaboration with faculty physicians. It is a practicing clinician and administrator role, with 10% clinical and 90% administrative responsibilities, serving as the primary liaison for practice-oriented APPs and workforce resourcing.

What You'll Do

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and professional support to APPs and Lead APPs to align with UCSF Health and the surgical department.
  • Develop and implement ongoing quality improvement programs, regulatory compliance measures, policies, funding/productivity management, training, data sharing, and resource planning for APP practice.
  • Deliver clinical services to inpatient adult patients as needed and oversee APP workforce planning and staffing in the General Surgery area.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and hospital leadership to streamline workflows, credentialing, and policy development.
  • Serve as a single point of contact for APP practice-related matters and for resourcing the APP workforce.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's Degree in a health care related field from an accredited program (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive healthcare leadership responsibility; Senior Physician Assistant: 3 years leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a team and manage complex workflows and competing priorities.
  • Deep knowledge of patient care clinical standards, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to train and mentor subordinates and to prepare and present reports and proposals.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current California licensure in good standing by specialty within 90 days of hire; RN/NP/PA; NPI; DEA license in California within 90 days; CPR certification; ACLS certification; board certification in clinical practice.

  • Advanced experience supervising APPs and HR management knowledge.
  • Demonstrated leadership in supervising clinicians and managing multiple priorities.
  • Working knowledge of HR policies and data management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and professional growth by achieving promotion to NP 3 classification.
