Mission
Role Summary
Driven by a global product roadmap, we are seeking a Validation Engineer to define, author, maintain, and govern customer-level requirements supporting current and future vehicle programs. In this role, you will collaborate with Product Planning, Core Engineering, Systems Engineering, HMI, Software, Hardware, and Validation teams to translate customer and business needs into clear, testable, and traceable requirements, ensuring their delivery in accordance with corporate milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements Authoring & Lifecycle Management
Requirements Ownership: Lead the creation, authoring, review, approval, baselining, maintenance, and status tracking of requirements throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Analysis & Quality: Analyze requirements to ensure they are clear, complete, consistent, feasible, unambiguous, testable, traceable, and aligned with program objectives, architectural constraints, applicable standards, and customer expectations.
Test Requirements & Acceptance Criteria: Write test requirements in collaboration with development specialists and validation teams, defining measurable acceptance criteria and maintaining full traceability to customer and system requirements.
Feature Decomposition & Platform Tailoring
Functional Decomposition: Lead the definition and decomposition of customer and stakeholder needs into platform-level functional and non-functional requirements for new vehicle features.
Program-Specific Tailoring: Tailor and manage approved platform requirements for specific program applications, documenting justified deviations and maintaining alignment with global feature intent.
Benchmarking & Customer Feedback: Use competitive benchmarking, voice-of-customer clinics, field insights, and stakeholder feedback to identify customer needs and convert them into measurable requirement inputs.
Cross-Functional Governance & Change Control
Stakeholder Alignment: Facilitate cross-functional requirement reviews and resolve gaps, conflicts, assumptions, and interface dependencies with cross-functional stakeholders while applying consistent authoring standards.
Traceability & Impact Analysis: Maintain bidirectional traceability from customer needs down through system, subsystem, software, hardware, and validation requirements. Assess requirement changes for technical, timing, cost, compliance, and validation impacts.
Safety & Compliance Integration: Partner with validation teams to confirm requirement coverage, support issue resolution, and ensure applicable safety, cybersecurity, regulatory, and industry standards are incorporated and documented.
Profile
Basic Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent technical field from an accredited university.
Experience: 1–5 years of automotive product-development experience, including direct responsibility for requirements definition, authoring, analysis, review, or lifecycle management.
Systems Engineering & Standards Knowledge:
Working knowledge of automotive systems engineering, including functional decomposition, interfaces, architectures, and the interaction of software, hardware, network, and physical components.
Working knowledge of ISO 26262 and its implications for safety-related requirement definition, allocation, traceability, and verification.
Familiarity with INCOSE-aligned requirement engineering practices (elicitation, decomposition, allocation, analysis, traceability, verification, validation, and change management).
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements, standards, and industry best practices to translate them into clear, traceable product requirements.
Core Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to write test requirements in collaboration with development specialists.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write precise technical requirements and explain technical content to non-technical audiences.
Proven ability to coordinate requirement deliverables, manage priorities/dependencies, drive decisions, and meet program milestones across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Tools & Technical Skills:
Hands-on experience using IBM Engineering
