About the Role The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law seeks a law professional to teach courses on a part-time basis. Adjunct faculty are non-tenure/tenure-track employees contracted via offer letters to teach specific classes for specific semesters, drawing from practitioners and jurists in the region to bring practical experience to students. What You'll Do
- Complete all employment documentation and required trainings, and submit signed offer letters promptly.
- Prepare for your course, including syllabus, teaching materials, print-ready materials, textbooks, and assessments.
- Teach the assigned course(s) as published in the Academic Schedule and per the offer letter, using fair and effective pedagogical methods.
- Track student attendance, refer issues to Administration when needed, and use the learning management platforms (TWEN, Canvas) to post materials and communicate with students.
- Read submitted student work and provide timely written feedback; hold office hours for individualized guidance.
- Schedule make-up classes for cancellations in coordination with Administration to ensure proper teaching hours.
- Grade mid-term and final exams and other assessments, and submit grades within required timelines for approval.
- Review end-of-semester course evaluations and use feedback for improvement.
- Areas of teaching include Civil Pretrial Litigation; First/Second Year Legal Research and Writing; Capital Lawyering and Policy Making; Criminal Pretrial Litigation; Expert Testimony; Using Technology; Land Use Planning; Taking and Defending Depositions; The Legal Profession. What We're Looking For
- A practicing or credentialed legal professional capable of teaching the listed courses.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality instruction as an adjunct, and willingness to operate as a part-time, non-tenure-track faculty member.
- Availability to teach during day and evening sections as needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in line with University policy.
- Ability to collaborate with Administration and respond to educational needs.
