Job title: Adjunct Pool - Instructors in Chemistry
About the Role The Department of Chemistry and Physics at North Central College invites applications for adjunct (per-course) faculty to teach laboratory and lecture sections of General and Organic Chemistry. These are per-course appointments, non-benefits eligible, renewable on a semester-by-semester basis, with an ongoing pool to consider qualified candidates as course needs arise.
What You'll Do
- Deliver course content aligned with learning outcomes for laboratory and lecture sections of General and Organic Chemistry.
- Create assignments and other assessments, evaluate and grade student work, and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain office hours and support student success.
- Collaborate with the department to meet programmatic needs and adhere to college policies.
- Manage course records and participate in ongoing quality improvement as opportunities arise.
What We're Looking For
- A Ph.D. in chemistry or an associated field is preferred; candidates with a master’s degree and college-level teaching experience may also be considered.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence is paramount.
- Desired qualifications include prior higher education teaching experience and experience with technology/course management systems (e.g., Canvas).
- Background check and official transcripts are required prior to employment.
- These adjunct (per-course) appointments are for one semester, renewable, with loads not exceeding 8 credit hours; generally one course per semester; non-benefits eligible; no tenure eligibility.
Nice to Have
- Prior higher education teaching experience (preferred).
- Experience with Canvas or other course management systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- Budgeted salary ranges: $2,640-$2,860 (labs) and $2,880-$3,120 (lectures) per course. The final pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is non-benefits eligible and contingent upon successful background screening.
