Job title: Adjunct Pool - Instructors in Biology
About the Role
North Central College’s Department of Biology invites applications for an adjunct pool of instructors to teach courses on a per‑course basis. Regular offerings include Introductory Cell Biology Lab; 200‑level Ecology Lab; 200‑level Genetics Lab; and Human Biology (lecture and lab for non‑majors). Applicants may indicate multiple course areas of interest in their cover letter. Adjunct instructors deliver content aligned with learning outcomes, contribute to assignments and assessments, evaluate student work, and provide office hours to support student success. Appointments are per course, non‑benefits eligible, fixed‑term, and typically do not exceed 8 credit hours (one course per semester is the norm). The pool is open continuously to build a qualified candidate base; opportunities arise as program needs change.
What You'll Do
- Deliver course content aligned with learning outcomes and syllabi.
- Develop and assess assignments and examinations; evaluate and assign grades.
- Create and maintain assessments; provide timely feedback to students.
- Be available for student office hours and support student success.
- Work on a per‑course basis; comply with College policies and participate in ongoing professional responsibilities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- A master’s degree in biology or a closely related field; experience teaching at the college level.
- Ability to deliver course content for assigned areas; familiarity with learning outcomes and assessment.
- Candidates should indicate in their cover letter which course areas they are interested in (multiple selections are welcome).
- A terminal degree is preferred.
Nice to Have
- Terminal degree in biology or related field.
- Prior experience teaching introductory biology labs or non‑major biology courses.
Compensation & Benefits
- Budgeted salary range: $960-$1,040 per credit hour.
- This is a non‑benefits eligible, fixed‑term appointment with no tenure eligibility.
- Loads do not exceed 8 credit hours; one course per semester is the norm.
- The posting is for an ongoing pool; employment depends on course needs, funding, and enrollment.
