Job title: Adjunct Instructor of Japanese
About the Role The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a non-tenure-track adjunct position in Japanese Studies, to begin August 15, 2026. This is a per-course, part-time position to support teaching and scholarly work in Japanese language and culture. Duties include planning and teaching courses on Japanese culture and society; formally evaluating students at least 4 times per semester; providing timely feedback and interacting with students to promote understanding; and communicating/reporting to the WLC Chair and NCC Registrar as needed.
What You'll Do
- Plan and teach courses on Japanese culture and society.
- Formally evaluate students at least 4 times per semester.
- Provide timely feedback to and interact with students to promote the acquisition of class content.
- Communicate and report to WLC Chairperson and to NCC Registrar’s Office as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Masters degree or higher in the field related to the class content.
- Pedagogical experience teaching the class content or related topics.
- Pedagogical experience and/or training in the modality of the course (in-person/hybrid/online).
- Applicants must demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of students, as well as ongoing scholarship.
Nice to Have
- Experience with teaching Japanese or Japanese Studies topics that add to the current departmental offerings.
- Demonstrated excellence in both teaching, training in pedagogical methods, and research.
Compensation & Benefits
- Budgeted salary range: $3,840-$4,160.
- Pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including experience and qualifications, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
