Job title: Adjunct Instructor - HVACR
About the Role The College of Engineering and Technology at Ferris State University invites applications for Adjunct Instructor positions in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) program. This is a part-time, in-person teaching role designed to prepare the next generation of HVACR technicians and industry professionals. Positions are offered as a pooled, temporary basis with start dates from August 2026 to January 2027, and assignments are made semester by semester based on program needs and funding.
What You'll Do
- Teach HVACR courses across a variety of disciplines including residential and commercial HVAC systems, refrigeration, controls and automation, electrical fundamentals, system design, installation practices, diagnostics and troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, energy management, building systems, and emerging technologies.
- Conduct assessments, provide timely feedback, and grade work; hold office hours and participate in in-person instruction at Ferris State campuses or approved sites.
- Design and deliver hands-on, applied learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to real-world industry practice.
What We're Looking For
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher for associate-level courses; master's for baccalaureate; terminal degree for graduate programs.
- Experience: Tested industry experience in HVACR (typically 5+ years); professional expertise in HVACR subfields; demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in real-world settings.
- Residency/work authorization: Must reside in Michigan and be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
- Commitment to student success and ability to foster hands-on, applied learning experiences.
Nice to Have
- Experience delivering hands-on, applied learning and familiarity with a range of HVACR subfields; relevant certifications or advanced degrees in the field.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Minimum of $1,353 per credit hour; if an advanced degree is held in the primary academic discipline, the minimum increases to $1,458 per credit hour. Salary is commensurate with qualifications per Ferris State University/BOT/union agreement.
