Adjunct Instructor —Art and Design, Music, Theatre
The Core Curriculum program and Fine and Performing Arts division at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa), along with its affiliate, Mount Mercy University (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) seek qualified applicants to serve as adjunct instructors for Art and Design, Music, and Theatre courses in the Core Curriculum.
By applying, candidates will be considered for inclusion in an adjunct faculty pool. Positions are filled on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on programmatic needs.
Course Details and Format
Specific course assignments and formats, including online and face-to-face instruction, vary by semester based on teaching needs. Openings develop on a periodic basis.
We are seeking candidates with expertise and interest in teaching one or more of the following courses:
- AD 145/THTR 145. Creative Expression fulfills the Creative Expression Core requirement. This course engages the question, "How does engaging in the creative process enrich our understanding of ourselves and others?", by focusing on exploring artistic techniques through the creative process. Students engage in both individual and collaborative processes to craft original creative works with an emphasis on integrating feedback from professors and peers. The course culminates in students showcasing their work to an audience through exhibition, publication, and/or live performance. (The course is taught in a specific discipline, depending on the instructor's expertise-e., Art and Design, or Theatre).
- MUS 145. Creating Music in the 21st Century fulfills the Creative Expression Core requirement. This course engages the question, "How does the music making process influence the way we express ourselves?", by exploring how the music-making process shapes the way people express ideas, emotions, and perspectives. Students learn foundational concepts of musical elements, sound, and digital music production while creating original compositions. Through listening, analysis, creative projects, and reflection, students examine how musical choices communicate meaning and how music both reflects and influences cultural and social contexts. No prior composition or production experience is required for students who enroll in this course.
Qualifications

Successful candidates must hold a master's degree or have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in the specific subject area or a closely related field. Preference may be given to applicants with prior teaching experience.

Due to state employment regulations, candidates must reside in one of the following authorized states to be considered for online adjunct teaching assignments: AK, AZ, AR, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, LA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NV, ND, SD, TX, VA, WV, or WI. Candidates who reside outside of these states may not be eligible for appointment.
