About the Role Nelson University seeks an adjunct faculty member in the Communication Arts Department to teach speech courses. The role emphasizes current, biblically integrated instruction aligned with Assemblies of God doctrine and contributes to students’ academic and spiritual development. What You'll Do
- Teach courses in speech as assigned by the Dean. Courses may be scheduled during day or night hours, or Saturdays.
- Prepare syllabi in accordance with the institutional model; initiate textbook selection in a timely fashion; oversee quality educational experiences for students; produce evaluations and scores of student performance via the learning management system, and submit final grades per the posted schedule.
- Provide 30 minutes of availability per week per course for student consultations.
- Familiarize yourself with the University’s Institutional Policy Manual and adhere to its policies; wear professional attire and begin/end each class on time.
- Carry out instructional and spiritual formation activities with students and staff in accord with University policies and practices.
- Attend department meetings (not mandatory but invited); participate in Faculty In-Service and commencement ceremonies (not required but encouraged).
- Maintain regular communication with Department Chairs; coordinate with Dean and Provost as appropriate.
- Support the mission with professionalism and collegiality, and contribute to program development as needed. What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university in communications or a communications-related field, or a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 hours in communications.
- Academic qualifications commensurate with accreditation criteria; established teaching abilities; strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, administration, and students; adaptability to change and innovation.
- Documented professional experience; online teaching experience preferred.
- Ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds; commitment to collaboration and program development.
- Faith Commitment: Personal faith consistent with Nelson University’s evangelical Christian mission; active participation in a local church community; Assemblies of God affiliation preferred. Nice to Have
- Experience teaching in an online format (preferred). Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation is determined according to established pay scales and is based on credentials and teaching assignments.
