About the Role Adjunct faculty at Stevenson University Online: Literacy Education will engage in teaching activities for the Graduate Certificate in Literacy Education within the School of Education, in accordance with the University’s workload policies. This role involves delivering online instruction and supporting student learning in a post-baccalaureate program.

What You'll Do

  • Teach courses in the Graduate Certificate in Literacy Education, Stevenson University Online, School of Education.
  • Engage in instructional activities totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in a single semester; prepare teaching materials; confer with students on course materials; review written examinations and papers; evaluate presentations and projects; provide prompt, positive feedback; and provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
  • Write syllabi; read and respond to emails promptly; grade coursework within a timeframe that allows incorporation of feedback; timely submission of final grades; attendance verification and other reports as requested; alert appropriate university personnel to student problems on a timely basis; complete training or professional development as required.
  • Maintain collegiality and adhere to professional and ethical principles; follow all faculty and program policies; exercise academic freedom; communicate regularly with students.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree in a field related to the teaching assignment; experience teaching and/or working in elementary or secondary education in reading/literacy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Online teaching experience at the university level preferred.
  • Knowledge of K-12 literacy education; demonstrated teaching ability/expertise in a subject area; ability to work as a team, lead small groups, and manage projects.
  • Fluency with information technologies and online resources; experience with Blackboard or a similar learning management system; proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal and presentation communication skills; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed; ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities; commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student-centered teaching; ability to assess student performance; commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community; well-developed organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines; ability to collaborate with colleagues; demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies.

Nice to Have

  • Online teaching experience at the university level (preferred).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: anticipated to be $1,484 per credit/contact hour (USD). Pay is monthly; FLSA Exempt; hours per week and total hours per year vary based on assigned courses.
