Job title: Adjunct Faculty, Medical Humanities and Science Writing
About the Role Stevenson University seeks adjunct faculty in the Medical Humanities and Science Writing track within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences: English Language and Literature. This role involves teaching courses such as Writing in the Sciences, Writing in the Health Professions, Introduction to Medical Humanities, or other Medical Humanities or writing electives, based on education and experience. Adjunct faculty engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University’s workload policies and are responsible for ensuring that students meet learning outcomes, providing timely feedback and assessments.
What You'll Do
- Teach courses (Writing in the Sciences, Writing in the Health Professions, Introduction to Medical Humanities, or other Medical Humanities or writing electives) based on education and experience.
- Engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University’s faculty workload policies and ensure students meet learning outcomes; provide appropriate and timely feedback and assessments throughout the course.
- Develop syllabi, prepare teaching materials, confer with students on course materials, direct individual and group studies, review written examinations and papers, evaluate presentations and projects, and provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
- Grade course work within a timeframe that allows feedback to be incorporated into subsequent assignments; timely submission of mid-term and final grades; attendance verification; academic alerts; and other reports as requested; alert appropriate university personnel to student problems promptly.
- Complete training or professional development as required by the University.
- Maintain collegial and ethical conduct; follow all faculty and program policies; uphold academic freedom; and teach across day, evening, online, or hybrid formats as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- A Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric, or related field; strong commitment to quality teaching; and at least one year of college-level teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of teaching Science Writing, Writing in the Health Professions, and/or Medical Humanities; ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities; strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills; ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies.
- Ability to create inclusive learning experiences that help graduate and/or undergraduate students develop professionally, intellectually, and socially; demonstrate student-centered teaching; assess student performance and learning.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with educational assessment practices; experience with Blackboard or other LMS.
- Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community; strong organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication; strong time-management; ability to work effectively with colleagues; willingness to travel between campuses and to teach evenings and weekends as needed.

- Experience teaching in online or hybrid formats; demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogy; experience designing inclusive learning experiences; familiarity with assessment practices.
