Adjunct Faculty - KIN 100: Living Well (Online)

Summary

Taylor University invites applications for qualified adjunct faculty to teach KIN 100: Living Well online through the Center for Digital & Extended Learning (CDEL), in partnership with the Kinesiology Department. Online adjunct faculty facilitate Taylor University online courses and provide students with an engaging, supportive, and academically meaningful learning experience. Instructors teach within Taylor’s Brightspace learning management system and collaborate with the Kinesiology Department and CDEL to support student learning and successful course completion.

KIN 100: Living Well introduces students to principles and practices related to personal health, wellness, and lifelong well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible to:

  • Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University’s Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.

Online adjunct faculty are expected to:

  • Facilitate assigned online course sections in accordance with approved course content, learning outcomes, syllabus requirements, and university guidelines.
  • Engage in regular and substantive interaction with students throughout the course.
  • Respond to student questions and communications in a timely and supportive manner.
  • Evaluate student work and provide timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain an accurate Brightspace gradebook and appropriate course records.
  • Ensure course materials and links are functional and communicate course-related concerns as they arise.
  • Communicate proactively with students who may be struggling or disengaged and support student success.
  • Maintain a positive and engaging online learning environment consistent with Taylor University’s mission and educational philosophy.
  • Follow Taylor University academic policies, online teaching expectations, and applicable accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in course evaluation, assessment, and quality assurance activities that support continuous improvement of online learning.
  • Collaborate with the Kinesiology Department and Center for Digital & Extended Learning as needed.
  • Complete required Taylor University onboarding and online instructor training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health and Wellness, Physical Education, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health, wellness, fitness, or related Kinesiology concepts.
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in digital formats and provide timely, supportive interaction and feedback to online students.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and follow university academic and online teaching expectations.
  • Commitment to Taylor University’s Christian mission and foundational documents.

Preferred:

  • Terminal degree in Kinesiology or a related discipline.
  • Previous college-level teaching experience.
  • Previous experience teaching or facilitating online or hybrid courses.
  • Experience using Brightspace/D2L or another learning management system.
  • Professional experience related to Kinesiology, health, fitness, wellness, exercise science, or physical education.
