About this role

About the Role Roosevelt University's Humanities Department seeks adjunct faculty for the BA in Graphic Design program. Multiple positions may be available to teach in-person and/or online classes at three campuses: Chicago, Harper College in Palatine, and McHenry County College in Crystal Lake. Ideal candidates will combine strong graphic design skills with effective teaching to support student success.

What You'll Do

  • Teach Graphic Design courses such as Typography, Digital Illustration and Imaging (Illustrator and Photoshop), Publication Design (InDesign), Web Design, Photography, Video, Packaging Design, Visual Identity and Branding, Business of Design, 2D Animation, UI/UX, etc.
  • Deliver instruction in-person and/or online at Chicago, Palatine, and Crystal Lake campuses; clearly indicate the campus(es) you can teach and the subjects.
  • Maintain an online portfolio or demonstration of professional work; stay current with industry practices and tools (Adobe CC).
  • Contribute to the department through effective assessment, student support, and ongoing curriculum development.

What We're Looking For

  • Online portfolio or other demonstration of professional work.
  • Strong graphic design skills: principles and elements of design, color theory, typography, page layout, digital imaging and illustration, photography/video.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); HTML/CSS proficiency; Motion Graphics (Adobe Animate and/or After Effects) a plus.
  • Teaching experience preferred; master’s degree in graphic design preferred, but candidates with a BFA or BA and commensurate field experience will be considered.
  • Ability to teach multiple courses and indicate campus availability.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in Graphic Design (preferred).
  • HTML/CSS and/or Motion Graphics proficiency (Animate/After Effects).
  • Experience teaching in higher education.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Entry level compensation rate for teaching one 3-credit course as of Fall 2025 is $3,982.00. Compensation for courses that carry fewer or more than three credits will be prorated.
  • Union membership required for subsequent semesters of employment.
