About the Role WAU is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) courses through the International Student Program. The role involves delivering ESL instruction to non-native English speakers, developing course outlines and lesson plans, evaluating student performance, and fostering an inclusive, culturally aware classroom environment on campus in the DC area. What You'll Do

  • Teach English courses – Conversation, Grammar, Reading and Writing for learners whose first language is not English.
  • Prepare course outlines and syllabi in accordance with guidelines; develop course and lesson plans; select textbooks and teaching aids necessary to instruction.
  • Evaluate student performance; provide feedback; maintain records.
  • Create a positive, welcoming attitude towards students and be able to create a vibrant learning environment.
  • Organize weekly co-curricular events for students in the DC area (excursions, field trips, etc.).
  • Support the ESL program structure with its four levels (Basic, Intermediate I, II, Advanced) and corresponding subjects. What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • One year of teaching or tutoring experience; ESL certification (TESOL or TEFL) preferred.
  • Ability to work with students from other cultures; strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • All initial interviews will be conducted in person; applicants must travel at their own expense. Nice to Have
  • ESL certification (TESOL or TEFL) as a preferred qualification.
  • Experience designing curricula or course development. Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: USD 2,100 per 3-credit course.
