Job title: Adjunct Faculty, Environmental Science (Wildlife Ecology and Management)

Stevenson University seeks an adjunct faculty member in Environmental Science (Wildlife Ecology and Management) to teach wildlife ecology and related Environmental Sciences courses within the School of the Sciences: Biological Sciences. The role involves teaching activities in accordance with the University’s adjunct workload policies and serves as part of the applicant pool for potential openings.

Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours in a single semester. Teach courses in wildlife ecology and management and possibly other Environmental Sciences courses; include classroom and laboratory instruction, preparing materials, conferring with students, directing studies, reviewing examinations and papers, evaluating presentations and projects, and providing academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Additional responsibilities include writing syllabi; promptly reading and responding to emails; grading coursework within a timeframe that allows feedback for subsequent assignments; timely submission of mid-term and final grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student problems. Respond to student feedback for each course and complete required training or professional development. Demonstrate collegiality and professional/ethical conduct; serve in a collegial fashion with faculty, students, administrators, and the public. Follow all faculty and program policies; uphold academic freedom as per Stevenson University policies. Teaching assignments may require day or evening classes; meet classes for the full class time during scheduled dates and times.

Master’s degree or higher in biological or related science; doctoral degree strongly preferred; at least two years of college-level teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of wildlife ecology and management and environmental science; demonstrated teaching ability in environmental science or related courses; ability to instruct students of varying preparation; excellent interpersonal and cultural competency; ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies; ability to create inclusive learning experiences and practice inclusive pedagogy; student-centered approach; ability to assess student performance and learning; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with educational assessment practices; commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community; experience with Blackboard or a similar LMS; strong organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication; time management and ability to work with colleagues; ability to travel between campuses; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Doctoral degree strongly preferred.
