About the Role Stevenson University is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member in Earth & Space Sciences within the School of the Sciences: Engineering, Math & Physics. The role involves teaching physical science courses in accordance with the University's workload policies and within the constraints of the SEIU Local 500 bargaining unit. The teaching location is Owings Mills North campus; opportunities for online or hybrid formats may be available depending on course offerings.

What You'll Do

• Teach courses in physical sciences (Earth & Space Sciences) in classroom, laboratory, or online/hybrid formats, in alignment with workload policies.
• Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in any single semester.
• Maintain competence in subjects; prepare teaching materials; confer with students on course materials; direct individual and group studies; review examinations and papers; evaluate presentations and projects; provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
• Write syllabi; read and respond to emails promptly; grade coursework within a time frame that enables students to incorporate feedback on their next assignment; timely submission of mid-term and final grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; alert appropriate university personnel to student problems on a timely basis.
• Respond to student feedback for each course and complete training or professional development as required by the University.
• Uphold collegial and ethical conduct, follow all faculty and program policies, and maintain academic freedom as outlined by Stevenson University policies.
• Teaching assignments may require day, evening, online or hybrid classes and may include travel between campuses as needed.

What We're Looking For

• Master’s degree in Physics, Geology, Meteorology, Astronomy or a related field, plus 3 years of college-level teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of earth and space sciences, including climate science, geology, astronomy, and physics. Demonstrated teaching ability in Earth and Space Sciences. Ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies. Commitment to inclusive learning experiences that develop students professionally, intellectually, and socially.
• Ability to assess student performance and learning. Proficiency in Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with educational assessment practices. Experience with Blackboard or a similar learning management system. Strong organizational, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. Ability to work effectively with colleagues and travel between campuses. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: Anticipated to be $1,191-$1,389 per credit/contact hour (hourly).
