About the Role Adjunct faculty in Biology (Microbiology) at Stevenson University will engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University’s faculty workload policies. The position involves teaching microbiology and general biology courses within the Department of Biological Sciences and the School of the Sciences to support student learning.

What You'll Do

  • Teach microbiology and general biology courses (in-class, laboratory, hybrid, or online) in accordance with workload policies.
  • Prepare teaching materials, maintain subject-matter competence, and develop syllabi.
  • Confer with students, direct individual and group studies, and evaluate examinations, papers, projects.
  • Provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities; respond to student feedback; and grade coursework in a timely manner with feedback.
  • Maintain professional conduct, engage in collegial service, and comply with all faculty and program policies.
  • Monitor and report student progress; submit mid-term and final grades and attendance as requested; and be prepared to travel between campus locations.
  • Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in an individual semester.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree or higher in biological or related science; doctoral degree strongly preferred.
  • At least two years of college-level teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of microbiology; demonstrated teaching ability in microbiology and introductory biology.
  • Ability to teach students with varying preparation and abilities; strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills.
  • Ability to create inclusive learning experiences and practice inclusive pedagogy; commitment to student achievement and integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with Blackboard or similar LMS.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; strong organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel between campuses and work evenings/weekends as needed.

Nice to Have

  • Doctoral degree (strongly preferred).
  • Experience with educational assessment practices and inclusive pedagogy.
