About the Role Adjunct faculty in Biology (General Biology) at Stevenson University will teach general biology courses within the Department of Biological Sciences and the School of the Sciences. The position supports the University’s faculty workload policies and is part of a collective bargaining unit with SEIU. This posting is for candidacy in an applicant pool; there is no guarantee of an active opening.
What You'll Do
- Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in an individual semester. Teaching includes classroom and/or laboratory instruction and immediate preparation.
- Maintain competence in subjects taught, prepare teaching materials, confer with students, direct individual and group studies, review exams and papers, evaluate presentations/projects, and provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
- Create syllabi, respond promptly to emails, grade course work in a timely manner, submit mid-term and final grades, verify attendance, issue academic alerts and other reports as requested, and alert university personnel to student problems.
- Respond to student feedback for each course and complete required training or professional development. Maintain collegiality and professional/ethical conduct in dealings with faculty, students, administrators, and the public. Follow all school and university policies. Teaching assignments may require day or evening classes.
- Maintain meeting class times for the full class duration and travel between campuses as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Education: Master’s degree or higher in biological or related science; doctoral degree strongly preferred. At least two years of college-level teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge/Skills: Strong knowledge of biological sciences; demonstrated ability to teach introductory biology; ability to work with diverse student populations and practice inclusive pedagogy; excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with Blackboard or similar LMS; strong organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities; ability to assess student performance; ability to manage time and meet deadlines; ability to travel between campuses; willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Other: Demonstrated student-centered teaching approach and commitment to student achievement; ability to create inclusive learning experiences and communicate professionally with diverse constituencies.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: Anticipated to be $1,191-$1,389 per credit. Pay is part-time/adjunct compensation, and is typically per credit hour.
