About the Role Villanova University’s Augustine and Culture Seminar Program (ACS) seeks adjunct faculty to teach its two-semester humanities sequence, ACS 1000 Ancients and ACS 1001 Moderns. The program emphasizes reading, writing, critical discussion, and engagement with the Augustinian and Catholic intellectual tradition in a small-seminar setting.
What You'll Do
- Teach ACS 1000: Ancients and ACS 1001: Moderns as a two-semester humanities sequence to first-year students.
- Lead small seminars capped at 16 students, fostering critical reading, writing, and discussion.
- Engage students from four colleges (Liberal Arts & Sciences, Nursing, Engineering and Business) in interdisciplinary exploration of foundational texts and contemporary issues through the lens of Augustinian and Catholic traditions.
- Develop and assess writing-intensive coursework that emphasizes the writing process, argument, and scholarly engagement with cultural and intellectual life.
What We're Looking For
- Experience teaching first-year humanities (or equivalent) and comfort teaching across disciplines.
- Ability to guide students through a reading-and-writing-intensive curriculum focused on foundational texts, particularly Augustine’s Confessions, and modern-world inquiries framed by Catholic social thought and related traditions.
- Capacity to facilitate small-group discussion, critical inquiry, and sustained intellectual engagement.
- Appreciation for a diverse student body and willingness to contribute to Villanova’s mission and values.
Nice to Have
- Background or interest in Augustine and Catholic intellectual tradition and/or liberal arts education across multiple disciplines.
- Experience collaborating with faculty from multiple departments.
