Job title: Adjunct Faculty, Art (History)
About the Role Adjunct faculty at Stevenson University will engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University’s faculty workload policies. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching courses in the Art and Graphic Design Department that may include Introduction to Art History and/or other courses as assigned.
What You'll Do
- Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in an individual semester.
- Teach courses in the Art History and Graphic Design curriculum, prepare teaching materials, and facilitate student learning.
- Develop syllabi, lessons, demonstrations, lectures, and workshops; confer with students on course materials; review exams and papers; evaluate projects and presentations; provide academic accommodations.
- Maintain timely communication with students; grade coursework and submit mid-term and final grades promptly; monitor attendance and academic alerts; report student concerns as appropriate.
- Complete required training or professional development; collaborate with colleagues; adhere to program policies; and be willing to travel between campuses and work evenings or weekends as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree in art history or related art/design field (PhD in art history recommended).
- Two years of relevant college-level teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary visual art and design culture and practice, and strong grounding in historical/critical theory related to art and design.
- Experience with art and design research methods; ability to develop course materials; ability to teach diverse student cohorts; strong communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student success.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with Blackboard or a similar LMS.
- Ability to travel between campuses; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Nice to Have
- PhD in art history (recommended).
