About the Role Adjunct faculty at Stevenson University will engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University’s faculty workload policies. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching courses in the Art and Graphic Design Department that may include Fundamentals of Design, Drawing, and/or other foundation courses as assigned. Some departmental opportunities may include service, scholarship, and involvement in off-campus, evening, or weekend duties. What You'll Do

  • Teach courses in the Art and Graphic Design Department that may include Fundamentals of Design, Drawing, and/or other foundation courses as assigned.
  • Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (Aug–May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in an individual semester.
  • Prepare syllabi, lessons, demonstrations, lectures, and workshops; maintain subject competence; confer with students; direct individual and group studies; review examinations and papers; evaluate projects; provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
  • Write syllabi; respond to emails promptly; grade in a timely fashion; submit mid-term and final grades; attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports; alert appropriate university personnel to student problems.
  • Complete training or professional development as required by the University.
  • Collaborate collegially with a team of faculty; work evenings and weekends as needed; travel between campuses.

What We're Looking For

  • Education/Experience: Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in studio arts discipline; strong commitment to quality teaching; and three years of relevant college-level teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Evidence of high-level visual arts and design capability; demonstrated teaching ability in undergraduate art/design studio courses; experience with a broad range of materials and image-making processes (e.g., drawing/painting, digital and analog tools, darkroom, printmaking, book arts); ability to integrate design software and technology into foundations courses, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; knowledge of contemporary visual art and design culture and theory; ability to develop effective course materials; ability to work collegially; ability to teach students of varying preparation; strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication; commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student achievement; ability to assess student performance; proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; familiarity with educational assessment practices; experience with Blackboard or similar LMS; strong organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication; ability to manage time and deadlines; willingness to travel between campuses; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
