Job title: Adjunct Faculty and Clinical Positions- Nursing

About the Role This is a CONTINUOUS OPEN ANNOUNCEMENT for the University’s Adjunct Instructor Pool. Under the direction of and in close collaboration with the Dean of Nursing, the successful adjunct faculty member will teach a lecture and/or clinical laboratory courses to ensure students learn and successfully complete outcomes. The Nursing Adjunct creates an environment of active student learning while engaging in scholarly activity and service in accordance with the mission and goals of the department and university.

What You'll Do

  • Administrative responsibilities: Counsel students in accordance with learning needs; ensure that course objectives and content are written and outlined in keeping with the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Nursing; evaluate the course to determine if goals and objectives are being met; evaluate clinical learning experiences and facilities and make recommendations to the Course Coordinator and Department Head; participate in the development and completion of clinical evaluation forms; recognize and inform the Course Coordinator of existing or potential problems relating to the operations of the nursing program; participate in self-development by attending appropriate workshops, seminars, etc.; serve on School committees and participate in committee activities as designed.
  • Instructional responsibilities: Plan and implement a sound educational program and direct learning activities; assist in the development of measurable behavioral objectives for the course; write objectives for instructional units; utilize varied teaching strategies; assist students in applying nursing theories and principles to practice; receive and utilize media for course resources; conduct formal classes and supervise clinical experiences as assigned; assist in selecting methods and tools to evaluate learner achievement; stimulate students to be inquisitive and seek additional experience; utilize feedback from students and peers in planning subsequent learning experiences; serve as a professional role model for students.
  • Community Relations: Establish and maintain effective relationships with other faculty, students, affiliating agencies and the community; maintain membership and participate in professional organizations; serve as a nurse consultant for local health agencies when appropriate; participate in local in-service programs; participate in overall academic affairs and programs of the university; serve on inter-agency committees when requested; provide direct health care to clients unrelated to student clinical learning; attempt to influence political decisions that affect nursing at the local level.
  • Research and Investigations: Assume a professional role in research by assisting with the designing, conducting, evaluating and publishing of research related to health care and/or nursing; share and utilize investigation findings to improve the teaching-learning process; attend research symposia, conferences, classes, etc.; contribute to professional publications and scholarly presentations for civic groups when requested; perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Preferred Qualifications (Clinical Positions): Clinical Instructor – first professional degree (D.V.M., D.N.P., O.T.D., D.D.S., M.D., Dr.P.H., or equivalent) with one year of academic/professional experience after the degree.
  • Clinical Instructor/Assistant/Associate/Professor credentials: First professional degree with appropriate experience and/or residency training; for Assistant Professor: three years of residency training after the degree or graduate degree with three years of clinical/industry experience in a subspecialty; or certification in a subspecialty with three years of clinical/industry experience; or five years of clinical/industry experience in a subspecialty after the degree; for Associate Professor: four years of college-level teaching/academic experience after the degree or a combination of six years of college and clinical/industry experience after the degree; for Professor: seven years of college-level teaching/academic experience after the degree or a combination of ten years of college and clinical experience with at least four of the ten years in a subspecialty.

  • Clinical Instructor/Professor paths with broader health-profession degrees and substantial teaching and clinical experience across multiple health disciplines.
  • Board certification and/or substantial residency/clinical experience in subspecialties as applicable to the role.
