About the company

The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead a metal additive manufacturing function, from establishing an in-house production lab through to print execution, post-build processing and inspection. The role serves as the technical authority on printability and oversees an outside production partner against agreed standards.
What you'll do
-
Establish and run an in-house metal powder bed lab, covering equipment purchase, machine commissioning, operating procedures and supervision of a lab technician.
-
Serve as the design-for-additive expert alongside engineers, making large, thin-walled, internal-channel components printable and catching problems early.
-
Own the technical relationship with an overseas manufacturing partner, challenging their assumptions, approving process parameters and build files, and rejecting work that misses specification.
-
Oversee post-build processing and quality control, from powder and support removal through heat treatment and inspection, and drive nonconformances to root cause.
-
Reduce print time, cost and yield loss across production.
-
Travel to overseas factories once or twice a year and help shape a future production facility.
-
Requirements
-
What we're looking for
-
At least five years of applied metal powder-bed printing experience.
-
Record of enforcing quality expectations on contract production vendors.
-
Operating know-how on high-capacity, multi-beam printers with build volumes of 400 mm or more.
-
Familiarity with downstream steps such as thermal stabilization, powder extraction from internal passages, X-ray tomography inspection, pressure and leak checks, and corrective-action reporting.
-
Skill in modifying part geometry so it builds more reliably, lighter, faster or more economically.
-
An undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline focused on mechanics, materials or production, or a closely related field.
-
Able to be on-site two to three days weekly, living within commuting distance of the region or willing to relocate.
-
Flexibility to take calls outside standard hours and to travel abroad one or two times annually.
-
Bonus points
-
Exposure to hard-technology startups or to demanding metal production in sectors such as energy, aerospace, defense, computing or transportation.
-
Experience managing technicians, or progressing from technician to manager.
-
Track record of bringing several 3D printers into service or building out a compact additive workspace.
-
Experience commissioning a metal additive cell or workshop, including equipment installation, powder handling, inert gas and safety.
