Accounts Receivable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Specialist to join a chemicals manufacturing organization in Glen Allen, Virginia on a Contract basis. This position focuses on maintaining accurate customer account balances, investigating payment discrepancies, and driving timely resolution of overdue receivables. The ideal candidate brings strong reconciliation experience, sound accounting knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both customers and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Investigate customer account activity across multiple data sources to identify discrepancies and complete detailed reconciliations.

• Partner with internal departments and external customers to resolve imbalances, clarify account issues, and support accurate account maintenance.

• Take ownership of past-due receivables by building productive customer relationships and following through on collection efforts.

• Address billing disputes, invoice questions, statement requests, and proof-of-delivery inquiries through to final resolution while documenting underlying causes.

• Review purchase orders, contracts, and related agreements to confirm correct billing setup and account configuration.

• Analyze recurring account issues and suggest practical improvements that reduce reconciliation exceptions and prevent future variances.

• Support ongoing account cleanup activities to improve portfolio accuracy and maintain stable account status over time.

• Evaluate escalated collection matters, provide input on collectability concerns, and recommend next steps such as write-offs or further recovery action when appropriate.

• Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing updates, communicating effectively, and assisting colleagues when needed.

• 3-5 years of experience in accounts receivable, account reconciliation, collections, or a closely related finance function.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or comparable accounting software.

• Strong understanding of billing processes, rejection reports, and the investigation of payment or posting discrepancies.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions such as pivot tables and VLOOKUP.

• Ability to apply fundamental accounting principles when reviewing customer accounts and related financial information.

• Experience researching account issues across multiple systems and using supporting documentation to resolve discrepancies.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and interact professionally with customers.
