The University of Maine System is seeking an Accounting Support Specialist to join its team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, keeping financial information organized and accurate, and providing excellent service to others.
Accounting Support Specialists play an important role in the receipt, disbursement, tracking, and review of financial information. Responsibilities may range from financial data entry and transaction processing to account reconciliation, budget monitoring, financial reporting, and other accounting support activities.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you may:

Support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including reviewing accounts, processing invoices and financial forms, and preparing fiscal information.

Process and reconcile financial transactions, deposits, cash and non-cash transactions.

Communicate with vendors, customers, students, and university departments to answer questions and help resolve payment, billing, and account issues.

Monitor budget activity and assist with general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, reporting, and budget preparation.

Process payroll-related activities and maintain accurate financial documentation.

Use computerized systems for financial data entry, research, reconciliation, and reporting.

Depending on the career level, research discrepancies, audit accounts, generate financial reports, assist with account reconciliation and year-end accounting activities, and support increasingly complex financial matters.

We’re looking for someone who brings accuracy, organization, sound judgment, strong customer service, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. The position requires skills in balancing and recording transactions, monitoring accounts, maintaining records, querying data, preparing reports, and communicating effectively with coworkers, students, supervisors, administration and potentially the public.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two years of accounting support experience.

Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education required for the assigned position.
