Accounting Specialist

We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team in Smithfield, Rhode Island on a Contract basis. This role supports core financial operations by managing payables, receivables, billing activity, and account balancing tasks with accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, sound accounting knowledge, and the ability to keep financial records current and well maintained.

Responsibilities

• Process vendor invoices, verify supporting documentation, and coordinate timely payment activities to maintain accurate accounts payable records.

• Manage incoming customer payments, apply cash receipts correctly, and follow up on outstanding balances to support accounts receivable performance.

• Prepare and issue billing documents, review charges for accuracy, and resolve discrepancies that may affect invoicing timelines.

• Reconcile financial accounts on a routine basis, investigate variances, and document corrective actions as needed.

• Maintain accounting records and transaction details in accordance with internal controls and reporting requirements.

• Assist with month-end financial activities by organizing supporting data and ensuring accounting entries are complete and accurate.

• Experience supporting accounting operations with hands-on involvement in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.

• Working knowledge of account reconciliation practices and general accounting procedures.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors, inconsistencies, and missing information.

• Proficiency using accounting systems and spreadsheet tools to manage financial data effectively.

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

• Clear communication skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and customers on payment and billing matters.
