Job title: Accounting Specialist - Grants, Contracts, and Revenue
About the Role The position administers accounting functions for grants, contracts, and revenue-producing activities for applicable funds, including the Excellence Training Center and Workforce Education and Innovation. The role supports financial processing, analysis, reporting, and compliance to ensure accurate financial operations and regulatory adherence.
What You'll Do
- Analyze data to determine rationale for entries to accounting ledgers and ensure conformity with GAAP and university procedures.
- Interpret grant and contract terms and sponsor guidelines; advise PIs and administrators as needed.
- Provide customer service and financial technical support to PIs and staff on fiscal administration issues.
- Prepare requisitions, monitor purchases, compare quotes, write specs, process receipts, and ensure PO/compliance.
- Prepare complex journal entries and perform monthly/quarterly/annual closes; reconcile accounts.
- Prepare complex financial, statutory, and management reports for internal or external use.
- Coordinate billing for contracts and revenue-producing activities; prepare invoices and follow up on receivables.
- Analyze cost sharing and payroll corrections; review equipment quotes and templates; participate in Equipment Usage Service Center setup and rates.
- Monitor grants, contracts, and budgets; prepare budget modifications; assist with subaward monitoring.
- Train new hires; supervise student workers as needed; maintain accurate records; communicate with supervisor and staff; stay current with developments.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least two years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: knowledge of Uniform Grant Guidance and university policies; proficiency in MS Office; data analysis; ability to prepare reports; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in a team; ability to train others.
- Preferred qualifications: Fund accounting experience in higher education (Banner or similar system); demonstrated cost accounting (manufacturing accounting) and public accounting experience; CPA certification.
