Accounting Director

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis
-
Prepare and analyze financial reports, dashboards, board materials, and management reporting packages

Support budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic planning initiatives

Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to leadership

Assist with preparation and review of financial statements and supporting schedules

Investment & Endowment Accounting
-
Oversee investment and endowment accounting analysis, reconciliations, and reporting
-
Monitor investment activity, gains and losses, income recognition, and related reporting requirements

Coordinate with investment advisors, custodians, auditors, and external consultants

Audit, Tax & Compliance
-
Support annual audits and preparation of audit schedules

Assist with Form 990 and other compliance-related reporting

Research accounting issues and assist with documenting accounting conclusions and recommendations

Help ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards

Leadership & Process Improvement
-
Lead and support financial system enhancements, reporting improvements, and strategic finance initiatives

Identify opportunities to improve workflows, controls, automation, and reporting efficiency

Develop policies, procedures, training materials, and documentation

Supervise, mentor, and develop finance staff

Business Partnership
-
Partner with departments throughout the organization to provide financial guidance and support

Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
-
4+ years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, audit, or finance experience
-
Public accounting experience strongly preferred

Experience with nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, endowment accounting, or investment accounting strongly preferred

CPA, MBA preferred

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

Experience supporting audits, Form 990 preparation, and compliance activities preferred

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Excellent analytical, research, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills

Strong communication and presentation skills

Prior supervisory, mentoring, or project leadership experience preferred
