Accounting Associate

We are seeking an Accounting Associate for a 30-hour-per-week contract opportunity in Des Moines, Iowa. This fully onsite role supports daily accounting operations and is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail and experience in billing, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions. The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment while helping maintain accurate and timely financial records.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and distribute customer invoices, process payments and deposits, and maintain accurate transaction records.
• Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding balances, and support collection efforts to maintain healthy cash flow.
• Reconcile accounts, investigate discrepancies, and assist with general ledger activities while ensuring compliance with GAAP principles.
• Support day-to-day accounting operations with a strong understanding of end-to-end financial processes and systems.
• Prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively while demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and adaptability to new technology and accounting tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent General Ledger and financial statement experience will be considered.

• Experience with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, including billing, collections, cash applications, and cash receipt processing.

• Strong technical skills, including advanced Excel, Google Docs, and the ability to learn new systems; Sage experience is a plus.

• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

• Adaptable team player with strong critical-thinking skills and the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
