Accountant

Robert Half is partnering with a respected higher education institution to identify an Accountant to join its Finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys variety in their day, takes pride in accuracy, and values working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The Accountant will support a broad range of accounting functions, including grants, payroll, accounts payable, compliance reporting, and general ledger activities.

What You'll Do

• Bill grant managers on a monthly basis

• Prepare and assemble quarterly grant expenditure reports

• Complete and submit year-end tax compliance documentation, including W-2 and 1099 filings

• Send outstanding check notifications to students, employees, and vendors

• Process recurring payments and prepare monthly journal entries

• Support month-end and year-end close activities

• Assist Accounts Payable, Payroll, and General Ledger teams as needed

• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

• Help ensure compliance with accounting policies and reporting requirements

• Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

• At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience in a detail-focused setting.

• Practical experience supporting month-end and year-end close activities.

• Working knowledge of payroll processing, including year-end W-2 reporting.

• Experience in Accounts Payable functions, including preparation or support of 1099 filings.

• Familiarity with general ledger activity, journal entries, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.

• Experience with grant accounting or expenditure tracking is strongly preferred.

• Previous leadership experience in accounting or experience working within higher education is a plus.
