Job Title: Accountant

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

• We are seeking an Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, support financial reporting, ensure statutory compliance, and assist management with financial analysis and decision-making.
• The candidate should have knowledge of accounting principles, attention to detail, and experience in a manufacturing, Commodities trading, logistics, or FMCG environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations:

• Maintain books of accounts and accounting records.
• Handle day-to-day transactions, including receipts, payments, journals, and ledger postings.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain the General Ledger and ensure proper classification of transactions.
• Monitor accounts payable and receivable and follow up on time.
• Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Monitor cash and bank transactions and assist with cash-flow management.
• Maintain documentation and filing of financial records.

Financial Reporting:

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Assist in preparing Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statements, and other management reports.
• Prepare monthly financial schedules and management information.
• Analyse expenses, revenues, and variances.
• Support month-end and year-end closing.
• Ensure reports are accurate and submitted on time.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

• Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets.
• Identify variances and explain them to management.
• Support cost-control initiatives.

Tax & Statutory Compliance:

• Assist in preparing and filing statutory and tax returns.
• Ensure records comply with Nigerian accounting and tax requirements.
• Coordinate with auditors and tax consultants when required.
• Maintain documentation for tax, audit, and regulatory purposes.

Audit & Internal Controls:

• Coordinate with internal and external auditors and provide required information.
• Ensure compliance with company financial policies and internal controls.
• Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective measures.
• Assist in implementing procedures to reduce financial errors and losses.

Inventory & Operational Accounting:

• Maintain accounting records for inventory and stock movements.
• Reconcile physical inventory with accounting records.
• Monitor inventory valuation and investigate discrepancies.
• Work with Procurement, Stores, Production, Logistics, and Operations for accurate financial recording.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
• ICAN / ACCA / CIMA qualification or part-qualification is an advantage.
• 5 - 8 years of accounting/finance experience.
• Manufacturing, FMCG, commodities trading, agriculture, or logistics experience preferred.
• Experience in General Ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, payables, receivables, and month-end closing.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Understanding of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• MS Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and financial analysis.
• Experience with ERP/accounting software.
• Able to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
• Able to work with Finance, Procurement, Stores, Production, Logistics, and other departments.
