Accountant (Pharmaceutical)

Job Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing timely financial information to support business decisions within the pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:

• Batch Costing & Yield Analysis: Track and analyze manufacturing costs for finished pharmaceutical products, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and packaging materials.
• Inventory Valuation & Control: Oversee standard costing models, variance analysis (materials, labor, overhead), and manage adjustments for slow-moving, near-expiry, or damaged stock in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
• Rebate & Gross-to-Net (GTN) Accounting: Manage complex GTN revenue adjustments including distributor discounts, wholesaler chargebacks, returns, and volume rebates.

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:

• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, preparing accurate financial statements in accordance with IFRS or local GAAP.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and complex accruals (e.g., clinical trials, R&D expenses, regulatory registration fees).
• Manage variance reporting comparing actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts for management review.

Statutory Compliance, Audit & Tax:

• Oversee corporate tax compliance, Value Added Tax (VAT), withholding tax, and import/export duty documentation for pharmaceutical shipments.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors during annual audits.
• Ensure strict adherence to internal controls, SOX (if applicable), and industry-specific financial regulations.

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Support:

• Collaborate with supply chain, plant operations, and commercial sales teams to prepare operational budgets and rolling forecasts.

• Evaluate capital expenditures (CapEx) for plant machinery, lab equipment, or facility upgrades.

• Analyze product margin profitability across therapeutic lines, distribution channels, and customer tiers.

• Requirements & Qualifications

• BSc/HND in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline ACA (Non-negotiable)

• ACCA, or ICAN qualification is an added advantage

• 5-7years post-NYSC experience, with at least 3year in a pharmaceutical, FMCG, or manufacturing company

• Proficiency in accounting software: Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or Navision. Advanced Excel is a must

• Sound knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, and inventory costing methods

• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Salary

N500,000 - N650,000 per month.
