Job Description
- We are seeking a highly competent and detail-oriented Accountant – Payroll to join its Outsource Department
- The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate and timely payroll processing and accounting support for clients while ensuring compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Process monthly payroll for multiple clients accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Prepare payroll schedules, salary computations, payslips, and payroll reports.
- Ensure timely preparation and remittance of payroll-related statutory obligations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records.
- Process staff changes, including new hires, exits, promotions, salary adjustments, allowances, deductions, and other payroll variations.
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger, bank payments, and statutory remittances.
- Prepare payroll journals and supporting schedules for accounting and reporting purposes.
- Respond to payroll-related queries from clients and employees professionally and promptly.
- Support payroll audits and provide relevant payroll documentation when required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable payroll, tax, pension, and employment regulations.
- Identify payroll discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
- Prepare periodic payroll and management reports for clients and internal review.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all payroll transactions.
- Support other accounting and outsourcing assignments as may be required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline, with a minimum of Second Class Upper (2:1).
- 2–5 years' relevant experience in payroll processing, accounting, finance, or outsourcing.
- Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACCA, or ANAN will be an added advantage.
- Sound knowledge of Nigerian payroll, PAYE, pension, NHF, NSITF, and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Practical experience with payroll software and accounting systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including payroll schedules, reconciliations, formulas, and reports.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll accounting.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple client payrolls and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive employee and client information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a professional services team.
- Strong client-service orientation and the ability to manage client expectations professionally.
