Accountant
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail oriented and experienced Accountant to manage the organization's financial records, accounting operations, reporting, and compliance activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, monitoring cash flow, managing reconciliations, supporting budgeting processes, and ensuring compliance with applicable financial and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Record daily financial transactions and ensure proper documentation.
- Prepare and review journals, ledgers, invoices, receipts, and payment records.
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Track income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Prepare management accounts and financial summaries.
- Analyze financial data and provide useful insights to management.
- Monitor budgets and compare actual performance against projections.
- Assist management with financial planning and decision-making.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance:
- Assist with preparation and filing of applicable tax returns.
- Ensure financial records comply with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory authorities when required.
- Maintain proper documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.
- Keep up to date with changes in applicable tax and accounting requirements.
Budget & Cash Flow Management:
- Assist in preparing annual and departmental budgets.
- Monitor cash flow and forecast financial requirements.
- Track expenditures and identify unusual or unauthorized expenses.
- Support cost-control initiatives.
- Ensure payments are properly authorized and documented.
Payroll & Staff Expenses:
- Assist with payroll preparation and verification.
- Process staff expense claims and reimbursements.
- Maintain accurate records of employee-related financial transactions.
- Ensure statutory deductions are properly accounted for and processed.
Internal Controls & Audit:
- Maintain effective financial controls and procedures.
- Identify discrepancies, errors, or potential financial risks.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Recommend improvements to accounting processes where necessary.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

3-5 years of relevant accounting experience.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

Experience with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, Sage, Odoo, or similar systems is an advantage.

Knowledge of Nigerian tax and statutory compliance requirements.

Strong analytical and numerical skills.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Good communication and organizational skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling financial information.

Professional Qualifications

Membership or progress toward professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, or ANAN is an advantage.
Salary
- N300,000 - N500,000 monthly.
