The Role:
We are on the lookout for a full-time Accountant to join us at MSI Asia Pacific. Location: MSI Asia Pacific, Fitzroy, Victoria Reports to: Finance Manager Position: Full-Time, Permanent Hours: 76 hours per fortnight Salary: 76,000 to 83,000 per annum + superannuation + salary packaging options
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and auditable financial records and meeting all MSIAP monthly financial reporting and reconciliation requirements. The role will be responsible for managing the Accounts Payable function. The role will report to the Finance Manager and will work closely with all MSIAP regional support office departments when coordinating month-end processes.
The Function:
The Corporate Services Department which consists of the Corporate Services Director, Finance Manager, and Accountant, plays a critical role in delivering MSI’s mission of ‘children by choice, not chance’ by supporting the MSIAP support office and MSI country programs to expand access to family planning and safe abortion services. The department is responsible for ensuring the broader organisation including Projects, External Relations and Fundraising departments are given the financial, people and culture, procurement and IT support they require. The Corporate Services department are required to maintain strong internal controls, ensure statutory and compliance requirements are met and financial risk is monitored and mitigated. The department retains oversight of all procurement and due diligence requirements and manages the MSIAP treasury function. The department plays a critical role in project development and management through the coordination of the project budgeting process, building financial capacity of country programs to effectively implement the project, conducting project financial monitoring and meeting all donor financial reporting requirements. The department coordinates the annual business planning and forecasting processes and is responsible for financial reporting against business plan targets to MSIAP management and the board. The department is required to work closely with finance staff in the Africa and Asia regional teams, Global Support Office as well as country program finance staff to ensure that all project financial and compliance requirements are adequately met. The department works closely with the fundraising department to ensure the fundraising return on investment is sufficient for the financial sustainability of MSIAP.
Key Responsibilities

Month-end close: Ensure all monthly journals capturing income and expenditure are recorded by working day 7 of the following month

Month-end reconciliations: Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled, and any reconciling items are addressed in the following month

Monthly financial reporting: Prepare the monthly support office financial reports and cost centre financial reports for the Senior Accountant and Senior Management team

Invoicing: Prepare invoices based on project contracts as guided by the Projects team and the Finance Manager

Receipting: Prepare receipts for institutional donors

Asset Management: Maintain MSIAP’s fixed asset register

Audit: Assist in the preparation for the annual audit and address audit queries throughout the audit

Tax: Preparation of monthly Instalment Activity statements and quarterly Business Activity Statements

Accounts Payable: Full function end-to-end Accounts Payable using Concur, SUN Systems and CBA. Create and maintain Vendor and Employee records. Process Employee Expense Claims

Supplier due diligence: Ensure supplier due diligence checks are completed in line with the global due diligence policy and conduct periodical vetting check assessments of all MSI country programs that are funded by MSIAP

Work Cover: Prepare the annual Work cover declaration and renewal

Administration: Capture action points from team meetings and maintain the corporate services team calendar

Qualifications

Educated to Degree level or equivalent

ICAA or CPA member or studying to become a member (desirable)

Experience
-
Experience in an accounting role that has played a key role in the month-end reporting process

Experience managing Accounts Payable

Experience working for an Australian INGO (desirable)

Experience in contributing to an annual audit process (desirable)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to organise and present information in a compelling and succinct manner.

Excellent IT skills, including Advanced Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, SUN systems (desirable).
