Job title: Account Representative
About the Role The Account Representative is part of an outstanding team responsible for providing best in class service to students and parents as well as maintaining the unit’s excellent financial controls. This position acts as the primary point of contact to students and parents regarding student finance, billing, and Federal Perkins loans, supporting 800-1,000 inquiries per month via phone, in person, and email.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and work a portfolio of accounts consisting of current and past due tuition, returned checks, Perkins Loans, and other University A/R with the ultimate goal of repayment.
- Locate student/parent via skip tracing methods and place phone calls, send letters and emails, and record and follow up on payment agreements; escalate accounts when there has been no progress.
- Provide financial counseling to students and parents, including evaluating financial standing to determine appropriate payment schedules/arrangements and brainstorming different approaches to payment.
- Work within policies, procedures and deadlines to ensure that payment agreements are reached; monitor and take action on delinquent Perkins Loans (rehabilitation through monthly payments, forbearances, hardships, and potential loan consolidation).
- Maintain a working knowledge of Perkins Loan rules and related regulations.
- Assist the Bursar’s Office with incoming phone calls, live chat, and emails during peak times to meet service metric standards.
- Collaborate with other University departments such as Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Associate’s degree and 1-2 years in credit, collections or customer service in the finance industry or a combination of applicable experience.
- Understanding of customer service, be a good teammate, basic accounting concepts, understanding of loans and credit, problem solving, Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn new software.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with students and parents in a professional manner.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $20.72 - $21.13 per hour.
- On-campus role with regular in-person presence; remote work arrangements are limited in accordance with University policy.
