Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm. Some adjustment in work hours based on students’ schedules. Due to nature of tasks for direct student classroom support, this position requires job tasks completed in office. Occasional remote work may be approved by the supervisor.

Job Summary
The Center for Disability & Access provides access for students with disabilities at the University of Utah. The CDA empowers students with disabilities to accomplish their educational goals by facilitating access and promoting a welcoming environment.
This position provides direct student support as well as providing support to ensure accessible course content.
Responsibilities

Responsible for providing University of Utah support by meeting federal mandates regarding accommodating students with disabilities.

Complete media interviews with students who are Blind, low vision, deaf, hard of hearing, or students with related print and auditory disabilities and determine the technology interventions needed

Facilitate student success a support a welcoming environment by coordinating services for students with disabilities

Provide program support to ensure course content is accessible to students with disabilities this includes monitoring course content, assignments, supplemental materials, reviewing Canvas content

Advises faculty about students with technology based accommodation needs
-
Uses third party applications to manage assistive technology, captioning, alternative text and other technology based-accommodation requests for students registered with the Center for Disability & Access.

Consults with faculty to remediate existing course content, which may include providing accommodations for individuals with mobility, hearing, visual, or learning impairments

Train students on assistive technology applications and programs used on campus

Oversee creation and organize production of accessible materials

Provide support to students technology programs including JAWS , Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText, Glean, Otter, One Note, etc.

Communicate frequently with students to ensure understanding of the course accommodations, schedules, and program services

Provides classroom assistance for students with disabilities to access course content including and/or acting as a reader, scribe, assistant to reach for materials, conduct classroom assignments at the direction of the student (lab experiments, group assignments, etc.)

Support exam accommodations for students by preparing exams, producing exam content in alternative format (text, speech, print, audio), and proctor examinations

Adhere to regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act

Maintain confidentiality of student records, grades, and materials used in coursework in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).

Participate in professional development activities to continually improve current knowledge and skills related to accommodation services.

Respond to staff or student concerns and provide assistance or escalate to a supervisor as needed

Minimum Qualifications
-
Associate’s degree in a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus two years of related experience required; ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks; computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet software, and/or database software preferred; demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred.
