Careers / Cabling + Security
Installs, configures, and services access control doors, readers, controllers, and locking hardware on Avigilon Alta Access and Avigilon Unity Access, and cross-trains on camera installs with the same crew.
Full-Time, W-2 or Contractor Tucson, AZ or Phoenix, AZ Mid Level Travel required
About this role
The Access Control Technician installs, configures, and services the door access systems Unió Digital delivers for commercial, industrial, medical, and mine-site clients. You will wire doors, controllers, readers, and electrified locking hardware on Avigilon Alta Access and Avigilon Unity Access, across new construction, retrofits, system takeovers, and service calls.
This role leads with access control and covers cameras too. You will work on the same crew as the Security Camera Technician and the Intrusion Technician, and on some jobs you will also mount, cable, and register cameras, so expect to cross-train on Avigilon and Rhombus video. Your work mix follows the project schedule, so some weeks are mostly doors and some are mostly cameras. You bring solid low voltage fundamentals and take each door to a working handoff: hardware matched to the door schedule, locking and egress tested, access levels and credentials set, and client staff trained. You will work with the Field Operations Lead and the Project Manager, build to the Physical Security Engineer's design, and take on-site service work routed through the Physical Security Service Desk. Intrusion alarm panels and sensors are the Intrusion Technician's work.
Unió Digital is an Avigilon and Rhombus partner and a licensed Arizona alarm business. Occupied buildings sometimes mean after-hours work. Some client sites and mine sites require site-specific safety training, a background check, or drug screening before you can work there. This seat is open as a W-2 employee position or as a contractor engagement. W-2 employees receive company-paid certifications and training.

What you'll do
-
Install and wire access control doors: controllers, readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, power supplies, request-to-exit devices, and door position switches
-
Work from the door hardware schedule: confirm each opening's frame, hardware, and locking function before rough-in, and coordinate with the door hardware installer on site
-
Test every door for correct locking, release, and free egress, including release on the building's life-safety signal, and confirm each lock fails safe or fails secure as the design requires
-
Register, provision, and configure controllers, readers, and doors in Avigilon Alta Access and Avigilon Unity Access, and complete device checkout to the acceptance tests the Physical Security Engineer specifies
-
Set up door schedules, access levels, and card and mobile credentials to the access plan the client approves
-
Pull, terminate, and test the door and reader cabling a job requires
-
Support camera work on the same jobs: mount, cable, and register Avigilon and Rhombus cameras alongside the Security Camera Technician
-
Service existing access control systems on site: diagnose door, reader, and lock faults, replace failed devices, update firmware, and close the ticket with clear notes
-
Carry out takeovers and migrations of existing access control systems to the engineer's plan, reusing the door hardware and wiring that pass test
-
Train client staff at handoff to add and remove users, assign credentials, and review door activity
-
Document every door with photos, device records, and redlines, and log your time and notes in HaloPSA
-
Keep tools, test equipment, and materials secure, accounted for, and in working order
-
Follow Unió Digital's safety program: complete the daily pre-task plan, wear required protective equipment, and report hazards, near misses, and incidents
-
What we're looking for
-
2+ years of low voltage field experience that includes installing or servicing commercial access control systems
-
Able to read door hardware schedules, wiring diagrams, and riser diagrams, and to wire electrified locking hardware to the manufacturer's instructions
-
Working knowledge of fail-safe and fail-secure locking, request-to-exit, and the egress requirements that govern locked doors
-
Working knowledge of IP networking for security devices: addressing, PoE, VLANs, and switch port assignment
-
Experience with Avigilon Alta Access, Avigilon Unity Access, or comparable access control platforms is preferred; camera installation experience and manufacturer training are a plus
-
Clear communication with clients during installs, service calls, and training
-
Able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to climb ladders, work from lifts and in ceilings and tight spaces, lift and carry cable and equipment, and work in heat and dust
-
Valid driver's license and a driving record that Unió Digital's vehicle insurer accepts
-
OSHA 10-hour Construction card, or willingness to earn one after hire
-
Eligible to work in the U.S., based in or relocating to one of the listed hiring locations, and able to meet the published travel requirements

These four values are the same on every role. They describe how the team operates, not the duties of this posting.

Dream Big, Then Make It Real

Bring the ambitious idea, then do the work that makes it real. Ambition counts here, and so does follow-through.

Your scoreboard is the client's result. Find the solution, own the outcome, and treat their success as the job.
-
Own Your Progress
-
You own your work, your misses, and your next skill. We help. We do not hide from problems.
-
We Do It Right

Do the correct thing even when no one is watching. Quality is the job, not a slogan.
