Academic-to-Career Coordinator, Title III

University of Charleston

Position Summary:

The Academic-to-Career Coordinator position helps students connect academic programs, interests, strengths, experiences, credentials, and educational goals with career pathways, career-readiness opportunities, and future employment. This position works in coordination with the Title III Project Director, Advising Center Director, and appropriate institutional offices. The employee reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Success in the Title III Department.

This career-focused, advising-connected position works within a structured Title III team and collaborates with the Center for Career Development, Advising, Academic Success, faculty, and other student-support partners. The role focuses on academic-to-career integration and does not replace primary academic advising or established institutional services.

This role provides valuable professional development opportunities and fosters collaboration with other professionals in student success, retention, engagement, belonging, advising support, assessment, and grant-supported innovation.

The position is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and therefore contingent on the renewal of the award. Although the position is paid with federal funds, the individual will be governed by University of Charleston policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide career exploration, career-readiness, and academic-to-career pathway-planning support, with primary attention to the grant’s priority student populations.
  • Help students connect academic programs, interests, strengths, experiences, credentials, and educational choices with career pathways and future opportunities.
  • Support résumé development, interview preparation, job-search strategies, and industry-recognized certificate opportunities.
  • Conduct student outreach, referrals, and follow-up in coordination with Career Development, Advising, faculty, Academic Success, and other campus partners.
  • Use assigned career-development platforms and institutional systems in accordance with established responsibilities, policies, and training.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to connect career planning with appropriate curricular and co-curricular experiences.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student participation, services, referrals, follow-up, and outcomes.
  • Support assessment, continuous improvement, evaluation, and reporting related to career readiness and student outcomes.
  • Participate in required Title III meetings, training, supervision, and professional development.
  • Occasional travel to the UC-Beckley campus in Beckley, WV.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of relevant experience in career services, academic advising, or a related higher-education area. • Familiarity with career-development tools and platforms.

  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, documentation, and follow-through skills.

  • Ability to learn and apply new systems, training, procedures, feedback, and professional boundaries.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, collaborate effectively, and work within an established supervisory structure.

  • Preferred Qualifications
